Lets get this thing started again!

I figure its about time I start posting some of the stuff I've worked on the past year or so. Just to update my status, I used to work for a casual game studio out in San Francisco (Playfirst) and then got hired at a core games studio in Raleigh, NC called Vicious Cycle. I've learned a lot of new tricks since I've been out here and have gotten to really push myself and my art to new levels. Working at a casual games studio was great and all, but it sorta stagnated my art skills quite a bit. There's only so many time I can draw cartoons of
Playfirst's proverbial Mickey Mouse character, Flo, and not go friggin crazy. On the inside I wanted to draw monsters, barbarians and other nasty things.

So, when I first got out to NC, one of the first things I was tasked with was to create a special forces soldier type guy, which was a pretty drastic change from my normal routine. I was pretty excited, but also incredibly nervous because this was going to be my first assignment in the big leagues, so to speak. In any case, I threw an idea out there they liked quite a bit and it was this -

This was the first iteration of Eat Lead's main character Sting Sniperscope. He was supposed to be a douchey jock, hence NJ guido look. After this and several other iterations, I slowly got more into the groove of doing more realistic characters. I was still questioning myself and wondering if I even had the talent needed to do the things that were asked of me, but I eventually got over that as I progressed. As you can see from this other earlier concept I did, I didn't quite have everything together yet.

I'm really not that proud of this commando dude, but i wanted to try and show how I began evolving toward tighter and better art. There were a lot of fun characters in Eat Lead and one of my favorites was Master Chef. I think it's obvious what he's parodying.

I will continue the story of my progression here at Vicious in further posts, but I'll leave you with another concept I did for the sorta-sequal of Eat Lead... Blood Bath and Beyond. This will be a side scroller in the vein of Contra and will be downloadable on xbox live and psn. And now for some newer stuff.

DUNE

Today's 30 minute sketch topic was Dune. I explored the possibilities of the Guild Navigators. Plus I like drawing naked blue dudes.

past daily sketches

First post. I thought I'd start with the 30 minute challenges I've been doing at work the past week or so. I plan on doing a lot of these.
